Imported Fuel Gas Skid Rectification

Equipment and modules for oil and gas facilities in Australia are commonly manufactured overseas. Despite significant effort to ensure construction and installation activities are carried out in compliance with operator specifications and Australian regulations and standards, non-conformances are very common.

The challenge

Three fuel gas skids were constructed by an international OEM for a major LNG production facility in Western Australia. When the equipment landed in Australia, it was found to contain many non-conformances against the AS/NZS (IEC) 60079 series of standards and AS/NZS 3000, the Australian and New Zealand wiring rules. The equipment was rejected by project QA/QC and a punch list was created. Inlex was engaged as a hazardous area (HA) specialist to verify the punch list and deliver rectification services.

Our approach

Our expert team of HA specialists and project managers worked with the OEM and operator QA/QC and project teams to conduct an audit on the punch list, recommend solutions, select and procure replacement equipment, and conduct rectification work.

Our diverse local supply chain allowed us to offer cost effective replacements for non-compliant equipment with a quick turnaround.

Our solution

To minimise cost and lead time, where possible, original equipment and cabling was retained. Our experienced team of local EEHA technicians completed replacement equipment installation, cabling, cable protection, terminations and glanding work.

We delivered testing, pre-commissioning, EEHA inspection and QC activities to ensure compliance with operator specifications and Australian regulatory requirements.

The results

The punch lists were completed on schedule and electrical installation passed final operator QC checks. The packages were mobilised to site in a fully compliant condition, enabling them to be installed without further delays.

Electrical equipment for hazardous areas (EEHA) is highly specialised and it’s often difficult to find equipment to suit niche project
