Hydrogen is set to become the clean energy fuel of the future, but as with any fuel, precautions must be taken to ensure safe storage and handling. Hydrogen can be challenging to contain, has a wide explosive range, and low ignition energy. If unable to dissipate, it can form an explosive atmosphere and ignite easily.
To enable the burgeoning hydrogen industry to continue to grow, build a safety record, and gain public confidence, it’s critical ignition risks are managed, and major incidents are prevented.
With our decades of experience in the LNG industry, we’re positioned to be your trusted ignition risk management partner – and help you build a brighter future.
Not all hazardous area equipment is created equal. To remain compliant with Australian regulations and minimise the risk of ignition in explosive atmospheres, hazardous area electrical equipment must be designed, selected, installed, inspected, and maintained in accordance with the AS/NZS (IEC) 60079 series standards. Equipment for use in hazardous hydrogen areas must be IIC or IIB+H2 gas group certified.
Equipment certified under foreign certification schemes, such as ATEX, UKCA, NEC, UL, FM or CSA, must undergo a conformity assessment in accordance with AS/NZS (IEC) 60079-14 before it may be accepted for use in Australia.
If you’re planning, constructing, or operating a hydrogen facility, we can help ensure electrical equipment is safe for the installation area and in compliance with local regulations.
We’re your complete life cycle hazardous areas partner – able to integrate with your team during planning, design, installation, commissioning, and operation.
Our expert electrical engineers can assist with hazardous area classification, conformity assessment documents, equipment selection and design. Our experienced and dedicated team of EEHA technicians can install, inspect, and maintain all hazardous area electrical equipment and instrumentation in your facility, rectify non-conformances, and help you maintain the required records.
Using the latest digital inspection platforms, we can develop efficient risk-based inspection programmes and ensure compliance with the latest standards. We identify areas of weakness before they become issues and develop cost-effective solutions.
